Blogging for a Portfolio

Blogging has lost its "new car smell" and has shifted to a stable constant in our society. For me, this was a hard lesson to learn. I never took it seriously becasue I felt it was all based on personal perspective, opinion and emotional. I was wrong. Blogging is an art that I hope to perfect and utilize to make my writing and ideas more concise, natural and appealing to mass audeinces.

Reality checks have been hitting me these last couple weeks. My fundamental JMC courses are highlighting the importance of blogging in our culture. Citizen journalism is growing everyday! Politics and current events are not only reported by the mass media, but by everyone else who has an internet connection.  So, many interpretations, perspectives and biases are being filtered and created.

How can professional journalists become more professional? Mass media is realizing that bloggers have a lot of power and influence. Look at what happened to Dan Rather and his reputation? Bloggers have the ability to create ripple effects just as much as the The New York Times.

From my perspective, the traditional form of news is the primary soucre of information and bloggers, tweeters, fb posters and etc are the secondry forms of information. We are the watch dog on the original watch dogs. This a checks and balances system produced by advances in technology so I won't be surprised in the future when there are more watch dogs to come.
